From Me To We [Amy's version]
When WindsorTurner was founded, it was just me—plus Lola and Larry, employees #1 and #2. They worked hard... at napping. Because they’re dogs. Great at being loyal companions, not so great at business development (or anything else work-related). So where did that leave me? I had no payroll budget, no job descriptions, but I knew I needed help. And that’s when WindsorTurner became a family business.
Family businesses are great—everyone’s success depends on it. And that’s also the downside. But thankfully, my first true partner saw the vision. My husband Rod, already well-established at another brokerage, understood what we were building. I had a dream: to provide real estate and technical assistance to organizations overwhelmed by the process—those in the business of service, not profit. Rod was all in. Our first brokerage client’s were St. Paul’s Episcopal Cathedral, followed by Habitat for Humanity and we were off to the races working together, and serving site selection and disposition needs for non-profits, government agencies and mission driven developers.
That covered one gap. But I also needed a right-hand woman. Over the years, professional connections have become friendships—and Maggie Hamiltion (when I met her) Winship (today) was one of them. After a little time and a set of twins (hers, not mine), we teamed up and made it official. Together. Sometimes with the twins in tow.
So there we were—the four of us—working to support nonprofits, government agencies, and mission-driven developers. Visionaries with big ideas but not always the technical know-how to get them done. But then we double-booked meetings, ran out of printer ink, lost track of who we’d invoiced, and our only social media stars were... you guessed it, Lola and Larry.
Enter Maura. Maura keeps us on time and on task. Thank goodness. Most of the time we don’t know what she’s done, because she’s just done it. She has a background in stage management and so that makes us the actors in her world.
Meanwhile, Essence and Alex, both licensed real estate salespersons in New York State, round out our client services team. Though they each have full-time careers, they step in to help our clients find the perfect space for their organizations, businesses, or future developments.
WindsorTurner has also been lucky to work with smart, capable interns and a handful of project-based collaborators who pitch in when needed.
Are we done growing? Absolutely not. But we’re committed to growing intentionally—with the right people in the right roles.
We believe in staying in our own lanes while collaborating as a team. We work hard, stay client-centered, care deeply about our community—and we like to laugh, love dogs, and cheer on the Bills!
Cheers,
Amy
